On November 25th-26th, 2015, invited by the Swedish Secretariat for Environmental Earth System Sciences (SSEESS), Prof. SHI Peijun and Prof. YE Qian attended open meeting of “Future Earth in Sweden” & ceremony of initiative Future Earth at the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, on behalf of the Integrated Risk Governance Project.
Future Earth is an important international research platform set by the International Council of Scientific Unions in the field of global environmental change. It is designed to provide knowledge and support to accelerate our transformation to a sustainable world. Focusing on three themes: Dynamic Planet, Global Development and Transition to Sustainability, Future Earth devoted to enhancing the ability for global sustainable development to tackle the challenges of global environment change by co-design, co-produce and co-deliver of researchers, funding and governmental agencies and other stakeholders. Representatives from Future Earth Core Project, Swedish scientists and research funding agencies were invited by SSEESS to communicate and discuss to enhance mutual understanding between Swedish scientific communities and decision-makers and discuss how Swedish scientific communities can strengthen cooperation with Future Earth to enlarge its influence to the world, thus playing a leading role in the activities of Future Earth.
On behalf of the IRG Project Co-chairman Prof. SHI Peijun and Prof. Carlo Jeager, Prof. YE Qian reviewed the achievements of past 5 years’ woke of IRG project and carried on the detailed introduction to the next five years in the Future Earth Research Framework of scientific plan. During the meeting, Prof. SHI Peijun, Prof. YE Qian conducted in-depth discussion with Prof. CHEN Deliang, Academician of Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, executive director of the International Council for Science (ICSU), Dr. Magnus Tannerfeldt, director of Professor, Secretary of the SSEESS and the other Swedish scientists on the IRG project and cooperation among BNU, the State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, and Swedish scientific community.
After the meeting, Prof. SHI Peijun and YE Qian were invited to participate in the ceremony of initiative Future Earth at the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, and held discussions on future cooperation with Chairman Dr. Wendy Boardgate.
